Birdwatching At Bundala National Park

Birdwatching At Bundala National Park

One of the best places to observe birds for the avid naturist and bird lover! Bundala National Park is located in the Hambanthota district and is an hour’s drive from Golden Pearl Tangalle Beach. Bundala is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. The park is home to 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater flamingo, which migrate in large flocks.

In 2005 the Bundala National Park was designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, which is the fourth biosphere reserve in Sri Lanka. The Bundala National Park has been identified as an outstanding bird reserve in the South Indian and Sri Lankan wetlands and is definitely a must visit park for all hardcore birdwatchers!
